Viper SmartStart App Reviews

Works great!

I had Smart Start installed on my Lexus RX 350 a couple months ago and so far had no problems with it and it works awesome! One thing u need to do is close the app after each use in order for it to start your car again. Best investment I made on my car so far and I love it especially during the snowy cold Michigan winters!

Works fine in my 2011 Kia Sportage

I dont know about the other customers, but this app works great for me. I had it since 2011. I installed in three different phones and works fine. Once in a while (1-2 per month it will not work) but I think is the signal thats not strong enough in my car. I really like the new upgrade even though it took them years to get it done.

Please fix app

The older app worked great. The new one just gives me an "undefined" error and puts my car into panic mode. Please fix this.

It has some good things and some bad things...

Just had it installed on my 2015 Kia Optima works good pretty, fast I thought. I will say in my area I always have LTE connection from AT&T. The app needs some work though. When car is running the main smartstart button should turn green or something to show that the car is running or not. I shouldnt have to tap in the top right of the screen, go to another screen then slide down to get an update on the current status of the car. Or if the car is not running it go red. I dont know something like that. Also I paid an extra $30.00 to have my rear window defroster added so I can control it. I thought I would be able to turn it on or off with one of the AUX buttons!! But no, the defroster defaults to on every time the car is started if the temperature is below 40 degrees. Not sure I like this at all. What are the AUX buttons for then??? Not sure I get it. Like I said though, over all I like it and it works well just need the app its self to be better! Thinking about calling Viper about the rear defroster though, the more I think about it the more it bugs me that I cant control it independently.........

Always have to log in

The app is a great app in my opinion. Across two cars and 3-4 phones. The app has worked well my only request now would be Touch ID instead of logging in. It requests the password too frequently.

60% success rate

Every morning I execute the start engine function and wonder if the car will start. Of course, I cant leave my phone after the action, as I might miss the confirmation or error message.

Need better Watch support

Every time I use the Watch to start my car, I need to log back into the app on my iPhone. This never happened before I got Watch or when I only use the iPhone app.

Viper Smartstart

I always get error 12 call many times, customer support cant fix the problem, the company named directed has to fix this problem soon or recall this unit or they are going to lose a lot of customers.

Temp Start

One of the reasons for purchasing this system was to autostart the vehicle when it reached a specific temperature inside the vehicle. Previous app a had this functionality.

Nice layout awful bugs

Layout is great!! It works when it wants to... My app like others constantly crashes and logs me then claims my password is wrong... For a $500 system and $140 membership this is crap.. They NEED to fix it

No problems here

Just had it installed on my 2012 Scion XB. Start , door open , door lock all work perfectly. I did not buy the upgraded unit tho with the gps so I cannot rate that but the unit works flawlessly. Using it on my iPhone 6plus. The only thing I can see making it better is the loading time than 5 seconds. The app itself is absolutely awesome to be able to get alarm alerts ANYWHERE.

I agree

Too many crashes. Gotta be the update need a new update. Constantly have to log back in. When I set alert for low temp it tells me if I want to start my car when I click on it it doesnt start it. And a lot of failed communication errors when trying to communicate with the car.error 12 or sometimes would stay loading but no success. On I watch it takes even longer to load. Please update.

Cant even make an account

Doesnt let me make an account tells me something about a colt user fix this !!!!!

If only there were negative stars

The app will not sync with my account. It refuses to accept the correct password. So unless I want to "reset password" with each log in via phone and then change it on my computer, its useless! Im ready to throw my phone out the window in complete frustration with this app

Not quite ready...

Mediocre at best. I love the new interface but overall things just seem to work very slow. Checking the status of my car can take minutes to get information if it ever even happens. Ill close out the app and start over and it still wont work.

Negative 8 Stars

By far this has got to be the worst app that I have ever downloaded in iTunes! I’ve had the Viper SmartStart system installed in my vehicle for less than one week, but if I had known how bad this app is I would NOT have had purchased the system. So far, the app has worked less than 50% of the time. When it does (doesn’t log me out or just communicate with the hardware) it is slooooow, and locating the vehicle is hit and miss. The Smart Park feature pops up on the app whenever it feels like it; so you cannot depend on it to mark where you parked the vehicle. Based on information I read online regarding Viper’s SmartStart app, you can remote start the car using Siri. This is one of the main reasons why I purchased the Viper SmartsStart module to add that feature to the Viper alarm already installed in my car. However, after installing the system and app and paying an additional $300 for the system and an additional $100 for one year of service to Viper, I find out (from Viper) that with the current app you can no longer start the vehicle using Siri. All that Siri can do is open the app. Within the app you can open/start the car. I was able to already do that with the key fob that came with the alarm that was already installed (no need to spend more money). I feel that Viper is misleading the pubic into thinking that you can use Siri to open/start the vehicle with the app. Yet, after reading many reviews, it seems that with the previous version of the app you could that and much more. If that is the case, VIPER BRING BACK THE PREVIOUS APP!!!!! Basically, I would recommend that if Viper does not downgrade/fix the app you do NOT spend any additional money in the SmartStart system; you will be wasting your money. If I could get a full refund for the hardware and the service I would. Overall, I am VERY pleased with the Viper 2-way alarm installed in my car and when I change my daughter’s car I will purchase the alarm for that vehicle. But I will NOT upgrade the system to SmartStart unless Viper fixes the app.

Code 12

Im having constant problems with code 12 with this new app even though my car is parked in a strong coverage area

Needs a little modifying

I have had, and frequently use, this app since Jan 2015. I dislike that the update took away the "engine started" notification. I dont want to, nor have the time, to navigate through the app (especially when its updated/new to me) to find where it will tell me what the status is. Im hoping for the pop up to come back to tell me my engine is started. The new check mark system is unreliable. My husbands app (same app, same vehicle) tells him with a quick message. I dislike that as well; if you blink, you miss it.

Almost there

Bought for my Infiniti G37 about a month ago. Good app but needs tweaking. Should be able to look at your phone and know if your car is still started or not. Seems like a simple tweak to make. If car turns off in 15 min why now make a buzz something pop up to say car off and when its still on you should be able to look at your phone and know for sure its on. Instead I use my phone timer. Should have to do that after paying $500. Almost there just make it more user friendly please

Mr

Terrible! Cant even get started. Error message every time I try.
